"It's been said that a special dog comes into your life and changes everything forever. That happened to me twice, " says Eric Melvin.
Angelyne "the Amazing" DEAF Cattle Dog's passing on July 7, 2020 could have been the end of the most important era of Eric Melvin's life but it was not meant to be. For the next 3 months there was a nationwide search by fans, friends and followers to help Eric find another dog to help fill his emptiness and heartbreak of losing Angelyne.
After nearly 3 months searching and communicating with friends, fans and strangers nationwide and an unsuccessful road trip to Texas, fate connected Eric with Maddie (then Paisley) from Mesa, Arizona. Like Angelyne, Paisley was born bilaterally deaf and as many deaf dogs do, landed in a home with love but with too many challenges making it difficult to help understand her and help her reach her full potential.
On Eric's road trip back home to Colorado from Texas to see about his next potential partner, his phone was going nuts about "Paisley" the deaf red heeler girl in Arizona. Once home, Eric and Paisley's owner began talking about their challenges and the possibilities.
On November 6, 2020, Eric started his new life with 11 month old, Maddie (Paisley). She was driven and personally delivered to him in Colorado Springs, CO all the way from Arizona. Tears were shed, and smiles were apparent when they met each other. The connection between Eric and Maddie was immediate and authentic.
It was apparent that Angelyne had sent Maddie to Eric so he could give her the same love, purpose and commitment he had given her for 14 years, 9 months.
And so the mission and story continues.........
